Vision is about clarifying where your business is going and how it’s going to get there.  However, that’s easier said than done as it often takes months, or even years, to discuss and clarify your vision so as everyone buys in and begins rowing in the same direction.

Just as your car’s manufacturer designed and built in warning lights on your vehicle’s dashboard to indicate the car is not running as it should, weaknesses in your Vision component are an indication you are likely not going to get what you want from your business.  For entrepreneurs that are implementing the Entrepreneurial Operating System® the problem is not with EOS®.  Simply put, EOS® works!

Since thousands of entrepreneurs have gotten what they want from their business by implementing EOS® look for the warning signs below as clues as to why you may not be getting what you want from your business.

EOS® not working?  Check your Vision component

Clues as to why your Vision component may not be as strong as it should be include:

  • The leadership team was unwilling to resolve their differences during the initial clarification of the Vision/Traction Organizer™ and compromised just to get it done
  • The team was unwilling to do the hard work of discovering their true Core Values
  • The overall vision contained in the V/TO™ is uninspiring
  • The Core Focus™ is not used as a filter to determine what kinds of opportunities to pursue or reject
  • Employees outside the leadership team don’t buy into the vision
  • The 10-Year Target™ is fuzzy and/or not energizing
  • The Marketing Strategy doesn’t synch with Core Focus™ and is not operationalized
  • Everyone knows the targets in the 3-Year Picture™ and 1-Year Plan are unrealistically high
  • Failure to identify the best Measurable that captures either the future size and scope of the business, or the driver of the company’s economic engine
  • The long-term Issues List is missing some obvious issues
  • Leadership is unwilling to critically review & challenge the V/TO™ during quarterly sessions
  • Leadership doesn’t take advantage of the opportunity to share the V/TO™ with the entire company on a quarterly basis in a compelling way

 

What to do if your Vision component is weak?

  • Reread the Chapter 3 “The Vision Component: Do They See What You Are Saying” in the book “Traction” by Gino Wickman
  • Take the Organizational Checkup™ with your leadership team, discuss the results and figure out how to improve areas of weakness
